Carol M. Armstrong

Carol M. Armstrong is een Amerikaanse kunsthistoricus, kunstcriticus en professor. Ze is momenteel de Doris Stevens Professor of Women's Studies aan het Department of Art and Archaeology van Princeton University en is sinds 2007 lid van de faculteit van het Department of the History of Art aan Yale University. Armstrong behaalde haar Ph.D. aan Princeton University in 1986. Haar wetenschappelijk werk richt zich op de Franse schilderkunst uit de 19e eeuw, de geschiedenis van de fotografie, kunstkritiek en feministische theorie, met een specifieke nadruk op de representatie van vrouwen en gender in de kunst en beeldcultuur. Ze heeft uitgebreid geschreven over figuren zoals Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet en Paul Cézanne. Ze is een regelmatige bijdrager aan publicaties zoals de tijdschriften October en Artforum en heeft talloze tentoonstellingen gecureerd bij instellingen waaronder het Yale Center for British Art en het J. Paul Getty Museum.[1]
