Christopher David Killip

Christopher David Killip (1946–2020) was een vooraanstaande Manx-fotograaf die bekend stond om zijn evocatieve zwart-wit documentair werk. Geboren in Douglas op het eiland Isle of Man, begon hij zijn carrière als assistent van de reclamefotograaf Adrian Flowers voordat hij overstapte naar freelance werk. In 1969 stapte hij over naar persoonlijke projecten, waarbij hij onder meer de industriële landschappen en arbeidersgemeenschappen van Northeast England tijdens de jaren 70 en 80 vastlegde. Zijn belangrijke werken zijn onder andere 'In Flagrante' (1988) en 'Isle of Man: A Book about the Manx' (1980). Killip was van 1991 tot 2017 professor aan Harvard University, gespecialiseerd in visual and environmental studies. Hij ontving talrijke onderscheidingen, waaronder de Henri Cartier-Bresson Award in 1989, voor zijn significante bijdragen aan de Britse fotografie.[1,4]
