Douglas Matthew Davis, Jr. (1933–2014) was een vooraanstaande Amerikaanse kunstenaar, kunstcriticus, docent en schrijver die vanaf de jaren 60 tot aan zijn dood een belangrijke rol speelde in het veld van de hedendaagse kunst. Hij wordt erkend als een pionier in experimentele video-kunst, nadat hij deelnam aan vroege internationale satellietuitzendingen zoals 'The Last Nine Minutes' tijdens documenta 6 in 1977. Davis was ook een invloedrijke criticus en theoreticus; hij trad uit van 1969 tot 1988 op als architectuur- en fotografiecriticus voor het tijdschrift Newsweek. Zijn werk onderzocht de sociale relatie tussen mensen en technologie, wat hem leidde tot het creëren van enkele van de vroegste kunstwerken op het World Wide Web in het midden van de jaren 90. Hij gaf advanced media aan meer dan 25 universiteiten en publiceerde verschillende theoretische werken over postmodernisme en televisiemacht.[1,4,5]
