Jan Saudek

Jan Saudek is een vooraanstaande Tsjechische kunstfotograaf en schilder die bekendstaat om zijn droomachtige, geënsceneerde beelden. Hij werd in Praag geboren in een Joods gezin en overleefde als kind samen met zijn tweelingbroer Karel de nazi-concentratiekampen. Zijn werk kenmerkt zich vaak door handgekleurde foto's van naakten en jeugdige figuren tegen getextureerde achtergronden of geschilderde decors, waarbij thema's als liefde, verlangen, identiteit en sterfelijkheid worden opgeroepen. Saudeks stijl is beïnvloed door de erotische fotografie uit de 19e eeuw en de schilderachtige esthetiek van kunstenaars zoals Balthus. Hij verkreeg internationaal erkenning in de late jaren '60 en zijn werk wordt verzameld door grote instellingen wereldwijd, waaronder het Art Institute of Chicago en het Centre Pompidou.[1,2]
