Jean Lacouture

Jean Lacouture (1921–2015) was een veelvuldige Franse journalist, historicus en biograaf. Hij begon zijn carrière in de journalistiek in 1950 bij 'Combat' als diplomatiek redacteur voordat hij in 1951 bij 'Le Monde' aansloot. Lacouture werd beroemd om zijn uitgebreide verslaglegging over internationale zaken, de dekolonisatie en het leven van prominente politieke figuren. Hij schreef meer dan 70 boeken, waaronder monumentale biografieën in meerdere delen over Charles de Gaulle, Gamal Abdel Nasser en François Mitterrand. Als voormalig professor aan het Institute for Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Parijs was hij ook adviseur bij Éditions du Seuil. Zijn werk wordt gekenmerkt door een humanistische benadering van de geschiedenis en zijn diepe betrokkenheid bij de politieke verschuivingen van de 20e eeuw.
