John Paskievich is een Canadese freelance fotograaf en filmmaker die in 1953 vanuit Oostenrijk naar Montreal emigreerde. Na zijn studie sociologie en antropologie aan de University of Winnipeg ontdekte hij tijdens een reis door Europa zijn passie voor fotografie. Later studeerde hij fotografische kunsten aan het Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto. Het werk van Paskievich verkent vaak thema's als identiteit, immigratie en cultureel erfgoed, met een bijzondere focus op Europese immigranten en First Nations-mensen in Canada. Zijn belangrijke werken zijn onder meer 'A Place Not Our Own', waarin hij de North End van Winnipeg verkende, en zijn uitgebreide documentatie van het leven in de Oostblok in 'A Voiceless Song: Photographs of the Slavic Lands'. Hij heeft ook verschillende geprezen films geproduceerd voor de National Film Board of Canada.[1]
