Joséphine Sacabo

Joséphine Sacabo is een fotograaf, geboren in 1944 in Laredo, Texas. Ze studeerde aan Bard College in New York en woonde en werkte uitgebreid in Frankrijk en Engeland voordat ze zich vestigde in New Orleans. Haar vroege werk volgde de fotojournalistieke tradities van Robert Frank, Josef Koudelka en Henri Cartier-Bresson. In haar huidige praktijk hanteert zij een subjectieve, introspectieve stijl die sterk beïnvloed is door poëzie, waaronder werken van Rilke, Baudelaire en Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Haar fotografie wordt gekenmerkt als droomachtig, surrealistisch en romantisch, waarbij het vaak dient als visuele manifestatie van geschreven woorden. Ze heeft meer dan 40 galerie- en museumtentoonstellingen wereldwijd gehad en haar werk maakt deel uit van de permanente collecties van belangrijke instellingen, waaronder het Metropolitan Museum of Art, de Bibliothèque Nationale en de George Eastman House.[1,2,3]
