Lawrence Weiner

Lawrence Weiner (1942–2022) was een Amerikaanse conceptuele kunstenaar die bekend stond om zijn tekstgebaseerde werken en performancekunst. Hij woonde en werkte in zowel New York als Amsterdam. Zijn praktijk maakt vaak gebruik van taal als primair medium, waarbij hij 'statements' creëert die de relatie tussen woorden, ruimte en waarneming verkennen. Weiner wordt erkend om zijn bijdragen aan het conceptualisme, waaronder zijn werk met de Art & Project-groep en zijn betrokkenheid bij diverse internationale kunstbewegingen. Hij was een belangrijke figuur in de ontwikkeling van artists' books en performance-gebaseerde documentatie.[1]
