Nell Dorr

Nell Dorr (1893–1988) was een Amerikaanse fotograaf, auteur en filmmaker die bekend stond om haar etherische zwart-witfotografie en haar verkenning van spirituele en filosofische thema's. Geboren in Cleveland, Ohio, werd zij geïntroduceerd in de fotografie door haar vader, John Jacob Becker. Ze werd een prominente figuur binnen de Pictorialist movement, waarbij ze experimenteerde met fotogrammen, muurprints en macrofotografie. Het werk van Dorr richtte zich vaak op moederschap, gezinswaarden en de menselijke conditie. Haar meest opmerkelijke werken zijn onder meer 'Mother and Child' (1954), dat werd ondersteund door de U.S. Information Agency, en 'Of Night and Day' (1968), een fotografisch essay gecreëerd als reactie op de Vietnam War, met filosofische fragmenten van denkers zoals Goethe en Lao-Tze. Ze was ook een belangrijke figuur in de vroege ontwikkeling van Amerikaanse foto-muurschilderingen en haar werk werd opgenomen in iconische tentoonstellingen zoals 'The Family of Man' in het Museum of Modern Art.[1,2,3]
