Paul Auster

Paul Benjamin Auster was een vooraanstaande Amerikaanse schrijver, romanschrijver, memoireschrijver, dichter en filmmaker. Geboren in Newark, New Jersey, studeerde hij aan de Columbia University waar hij afkwam met graden in Engels en Vergelijkende Literatuur voordat hij naar Parijs verhuisde om te werken als vertaler van Franse literatuur. Hij ontving aanzienlijke lof voor zijn debuutmemoires 'The Invention of Solitude' (1982) en de postmoderne roman 'The New York Trilogy' (1987). Zijn werken verkennen vaak thema's als identiteit, ruimte, taal en toeval, waarbij hij regelmatig detectieachtige structuren gebruikt om existentiële vragen te behandelen. Auster was ook een filmmaker en scenarist, die onder meer meewerkte aan de film 'Smoke'. Hij overleed in 2024 op 77-jarige leeftijd.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]
