Taryn Simon

Taryn Simon is een Amerikaanse multidisciplinaire kunstenaar die bekend staat om haar werk in fotografie, tekst, sculptuur en performance. Ze werd geboren in New York City en studeerde in 1997 af aan de Brown University met een graad in art semiotics, nadat ze ook had gestudeerd aan de Rhode Island School of Design. Haar praktijk wordt gekenmerkt door rigoureus onderzoek naar systemen van categorisering, machtsstructuren en geheimhouding. Ze maakt vaak gebruik van camera's voor grootformaat om beelden vast te leggen die thema's verkennen zoals bloedlijnen, strafrecht en mondiale archieven. Het werk van Simon is internationaal tentoongesteld in belangrijke instellingen waaronder MoMA PS1, het Whitney Museum of American Art, Tate Modern en Centre Pompidou. In 2001 werd ze geselecteerd als Guggenheim Fellow.[1,2,3,4]
