This book provides a comprehensive documentation of the art installation 'The Running Fence' by Christo. The project involved 2050 panels of nylon fabric strung from 18-foot steel poles, stretching across 24 miles of farmland in Marin and Sonoma Counties, California. The fence emerged from the sea and disappeared into the sea again at each end. The publication features text by Werner Spies and photographs by Wolfgang Volz, capturing the scale and aesthetic of the work which took place between November 1977 and January 1978.
