42nd Street studio
€ 19,00
Introduction by Linda Nochlin. Black-and-white photographs. Erotic nude studies, many in fetish or bondage gear, photographed by Baronio in her small 42nd Street studio; the models were primarily sex workers. 'The costumes they wore for the photographs were, for the most part, their work clothes.
42nd Street Studio is a photographic work by American photographer Joyce Baronio. The book features 40 large-format black and white plates depicting 'sex entertainers,' including strippers, porn stars, burlesque dancers, and other performers from the venues on 42nd Street in New York City. These portraits were captured over a four-year period ending in 1980. Baronio's work is noted for its intimate approach, allowing subjects to portray themselves in various erotic, semi-nude, and fantasy poses within her studio setting. The book serves as a historical and artistic documentation of the adult entertainment scene at the nadir of Times Square.
