Keld Helmer-Petersen (1920-2013) is currently described as "the best photographer that you've never heard of."
In 1948 the Danish photographer published '122 Farvefotografier (122 color photos) with pictures, as he himself then said, "could not have been made but in colour". His inspiration came from De Stijl, Bauhaus,` Albert Renger-Patzsch - striving for simplicity and abstraction. The book led to assignments for Life magazine in Chicago, after which he returned to his hometown of Copenhagen, where he would work as a teacher and architectural photographer until his retirement.
His book disappeared 'under the radar' of photo historians - until Martin Parr rediscovered it, and included it in"The Photobook: a History ", Vol I.
"122 Farvefotografier 'has since been qualified as one of the groundbreaking books in the history of the medium: copies are scarce and "highly collectible".
