Douglas R. Nickel is een Amerikaanse kunsthistoricus en curator van fotografie. Hij behaalde zijn bacheloropleiding aan de Cornell University in 1983 en vergaarde later een doctoraat aan de Princeton University. Zijn carrière omvat rollen als Associate Curator of Photography bij het San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) en als professor moderne kunst aan de Brown University.
