Gilles Peress

Gilles Peress is een Franse fotograaf en lid van het Magnum Photos-agentschap. Geboren in Neuilly-sur-Seine, studeerde hij politicologie en filosofie in Parijs voordat hij in 1970 zijn fotografische carrière begon. Zijn werk kenmerkt zich door de focus op vluchtige politieke omgevingen, mensenrechtensconflicten en intense sociale instabiliteit. Hij heeft significante gebeurtenissen gedocumenteerd in Noord-Ierland, Libanon, Palestina, Iran, de Balkan, Rwanda, Afghanistan en Irak. Peress diende als vicepresident en tweemaal als president van Magnum Photos. Momenteel is hij Professor of Human Rights and Photography aan Bard College en Senior Research Fellow bij het Human Rights Center aan UC Berkeley.[1,2,3]
