Hiroshi Sugimoto

Hiroshi Sugimoto is een Japanse fotograaf en architect die bekend staat om zijn grootschalige zwart-witfotografie waarin thema's als tijd, geheugen en waarneming worden verkend. In zijn werk maakt hij vaak gebruik van lange sluitertijden en 8x10 grootformaatcamera's om ongrijpbare onderwerpen zoals zeelandschappen, architectuur en historische diorama's vast te leggen. Beïnvloed door dadaïstische en surrealistische theorieën combineert Sugimotos praktijk technische precisie met meditatief filosofisch onderzoek. Hij is de oprichter van het in Tokio gevestigde architectenbureau New Material Research Laboratory en richtte in 2009 de Odawara Art Foundation op om de Japanse cultuur te bevorderen.[1,2]
