Larry Sultan

Larry Sultan (1946–2009) was een Amerikaanse fotograaf en docent die bekend stond om zijn conceptuele benadering van documentaire fotografie. Geboren in Brooklyn en opgegroeid in het San Fernando Valley, Californië, verkende Sultans werk vaak thema's als gezinsdynamiek, identiteit en het leven in de buitenwijken. Hij is vooral bekend door 'Pictures from Home' (1992), een tien jaar durend project waarin hij zijn ouder wordende ouders vastlegde door gestileerde foto's te combineren met stills uit thuisfilms en persoonlijke teksten. Zijn andere belangrijke werken zijn onder meer 'Evidence' (1977) en 'The Valley' (2004). Sultan bekleedde docentfuncties aan het San Francisco Art Institute en het California College of the Arts, waar hij tot aan zijn overlijden aan kanker in 2009 diende als distinguished professor.[1,3,4,5]
