Minor Martin White

Minor Martin White was een vooraanstaande Amerikaanse fotograaf, theoreticus, criticus en docent die in het midden van de 20e eeuw een significante invloed uitoefende op creatieve fotografie. Geboren in Minneapolis, studeerde hij botanie aan de University of Minnesota voordat hij zijn leven aan de fotografie wijde. Hij staat bekend om zijn technische beheersing van licht en schaduw, evenals zijn filosofische benadering van het medium, die concepten bevatte zoals 'equivalence'—het idee dat een foto iets anders kan vertegenwoordigen dan het letterlijke onderwerp. White was medeoprichter en langdurig redacteur van Aperture magazine. Hij gaf les aan diverse instellingen, waaronder de California School of Fine Arts en het Rochester Institute of Technology.
