Nathan Myron Lyons

Nathan Myron Lyons (1930–2016) was een Amerikaanse fotograaf, curator, docent, schrijver en redacteur. Hij diende als fotograaf bij de U.S. Air Force tijdens de Koreaanse Oorlog, waar hij hielp bij het oprichten van een mobiele fotografische verkenningsunit. Na zijn militaire dienst behaalde hij in 1957 een graad in Engels aan Alfred University. Lyons bekleedde belangrijke functies bij de George Eastman House als directeur van publieke informatie en assistent-redacteur van Image magazine (1957–1969). In 1969 richtte hij het Visual Studies Workshop op, dat hij meer dan 30 jaar leidde en waar hij lessen gaf op masterniveau over fotografietheorie, geschiedenis en praktijk. Zijn werk is tentoongesteld in grote instellingen, waaronder het Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Hij is onder andere de redacteur van 'Photographers on Photography: A Critical Anthology' (1966) en heeft verschillende fotocollecties gepubliceerd.[1]
