Nick Waplington

Nick Waplington is een Brits-Amerikaanse kunstenaar en fotograaf. Geboren in Aden, Jemen, reisde hij uitgebreid tijdens zijn kindertijd voordat hij kunst studeerde aan het West Sussex College of Art & Design, Trent Polytechnic en het Royal College of Art. In 1984 begon hij met het fotograferen van zijn directe omgeving op de Broxtowe Estate in Nottingham, waarbij hij zich richtte op vrienden en buren. Dit werk leidde uiteindelijk tot zijn geprezen eerste boek, 'Living Room' (gepubliceerd door Aperture in 1991), waarin het leven van de arbeidersklasse in het Groot-Brittannië van Thatcher werd gedocumenteerd. Zijn carrière omvat diverse thema's waaronder milieuzorgen ('Other Edens'), de ecstasy-drugscultuur ('Safety in Numbers') en autobiografische narratieven ('You Love Life'). Hoewel hij voornamelijk bekendstaat om zijn fotografie, heeft Waplington zich ook beziggehouden met graphic novels, schilderkunst en samenwerkingsprojecten met ontwerpers zoals Alexander McQueen.[1,2]
