Peter Hill Beard (1938–2020) was een Amerikaanse kunstenaar, fotograaf, dagboekschrijver en schrijver. Hij woonde en werkte in New York City, Montauk, Long Island en Kenia. Zijn foto's van Afrika, Afrikaanse dieren en de journaals waarin hij vaak zijn foto's integreerde, worden sinds de jaren 1960 breed getoond en gepubliceerd. Het werk van Beard kenmerkt zich door een unieke combinatie van fotografie met elementen afkomstig uit zijn dagelijkse dagboekhouding, waaronder krantenknipsels, gedroogde bladeren, insecten, sepia-getinte foto's, marginalia in India inkt, citaten, gevonden voorwerpen en originele tekeningen of collages. Hij was bevriend met veel prominente figuren, waaronder Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, Karen Blixen, Truman Capote, Salvador Dalí en Mick Jagger. Zijn eerste boek, 'The End of the Game', verscheen in 1965.[5,6]
