Robert Hickman Adams (geboren op 8 mei 1937) is een Amerikaanse fotograaf die bekend staat om zijn focus op de veranderende landschappen van het Amerikaanse westen. Zijn werk kreeg opkomst in het midden van de jaren '70 met de publicatie van 'The New West' (1974) en zijn deelname aan de invloedrijke 'New Topographics' tentoonstelling in 1975. Adams' fotografie onderzoekt vaak het snijvlak van natuurlijke schoonheid en door de mens gewijzigde landschappen, gekenmerkt door een gevoel van stilte en ecologische kwetsbaarheid. Hij ontving verschillende prestigieuze prijzen, waaronder twee Guggenheim Fellowships, een MacArthur Fellowship, de Deutsche Börse Photography Prize en de Hasselblad Award. Hij is verkozen tot de American Academy of Arts and Letters en werd in 2020 opgenomen in de International Photography Hall of Fame.
