Sam Haskins

Samuel Joseph Haskins (1926–2009) was een Britse fotograaf, geboren en opgegroeid in Zuid-Afrika. Hij begon zijn carrière in de vroege jaren 50 als reclamefotograaf in Johannesburg voordat hij in 1968 naar Londen verhuisde. Haskins staat bekend om zijn baanbrekende werk in de figure photography, met name zijn trilogie boeken gepubliceerd in de jaren 60: 'Five Girls' (1962), 'Cowboy Kate & Other Stories' (1964) en 'November Girl' (1967). Zijn stijl werd gekenmerkt door een verfijnd gebruik van zwart-witkorrel, dramatisch chiaroscuro licht en grafische compositie. Naast zijn figurenstudies produceerde hij aanzienlijk commercieel werk voor internationale merken zoals Asahi Pentax en BMW, en creëerde hij opmerkelijke werken zoals 'Haskins Posters' (1972) en 'African Image' (1967). Hij was een meester in het beeld maken die sensueel erotisme balanceerde met high-art grafisch ontwerp.[1]
