Sylvia Plachy

Sylvia Plachy is een Hongaars-Amerikaanse fotograaf die bekend staat om haar uitgebreide documentaire- en straatfotografie. Ze werd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog geboren in Boedapest en vluchtte in 1958 naar New York City na de Hongaarse Revolutie van 1956. Ze begon haar professionele carrière in 1964, waarbij ze zich richtte op het vastleggen van het visuele karakter van de diverse bewoners en de cultuur van New York City. Plachy was van 1974 tot 2004 een invloedrijke vaste fotograaf voor The Village Voice. Haar werk is internationaal tentoongesteld in galerieën en musea in Europa, Azië en Noord-Amerika. Ze is ook moeder van de acteur Adrien Brody.[1,2,3]
