The Moment of Exposure Leon Levinstein

This book serves as the official exhibition catalog for a major retrospective of American street photographer Leon Levinstein. Opening at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa on February 10, 1995, and subsequently traveling to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Nickle Arts Museum in Calgary, the publication features 66 photographs documenting everyday life. The images capture scenes from New York's Lower East Side, Coney Island, Times Square, and Central Park, as well as locations in Haiti, Mexico, and India. It includes a foreword by Dr. Shirley L. Thompson, a preface and essay by Bob Shamis detailing Levinstein's career as an advertising layout artist and his aesthetic development, and a second essay by Max Kozloff situating the work within the context of modern documentary photography.
