One of the most original books to be published on London since the war', yet these photos were slated by the RPS, 'receiving 'a bilious review in the BJP'. New then, his grainy photos of Londoners were thought pretentious but 'Nannies in Rotten Row' or 'Crufts Dog Show', pictured here, have since become icons of our time. Snowdon's more recent NPG retrospective gained a glowing review in the RPS Journal, 'the only photographer who can be truly compared witn Penn.
London is a first-edition photobook published in 1958 by Weidenfeld and Nicolson. Featuring black-and-white photographs printed in relief halftone, the work captures various aspects of London life during the mid-20th century. The book includes numerous images of people and landmarks, accompanied by a short introduction written by Tony Armstrong Jones himself (prior to his title as Lord Snowdon). It is presented in a quarto format with blue cloth-bound boards and a dust jacket.
