Richard Misrach is een Amerikaanse fotograaf die bekend staat om zijn kleurenfotografie in grootformaat, waarin hij de botsing tussen natuur en cultuur verkent. Als pionier van de renaissance van de kleurenfotografie in de jaren 70, is hij vooral bekend om zijn epische 'Desert Cantos'-serie. Deze serie documenteert de ecologische transformatie van het Amerikaanse Westen door menselijke factoren zoals verstedelijking, toerisme, industrialisatie en nucleaire tests. Zijn werk navigeert vaak tussen politieke urgentie en esthetische schoonheid, waarbij hij tracht reportage te versmelten met poëzie.
